If you are new to my website, welcome! I am a nature and abstract photographer living in Spokane, Washington. Photography is a passionate hobby of mine and I mostly keep this website as a place to share images with anyone who might be interested in seeing them.

I am very drawn to lines, texture and symmetry and I am constantly observing my surroundings to find beauty in ordinary things.

At the moment the site is pretty outdated as my style has evolved over the last couple of years but I am working hard on updating it so stay tuned for a new look and a lot of new images coming in summer 2024!

In the meantime, feel free to look at the galleries of some of my older work and read below for an explanation of what I like to capture and why. You can also find me on Instagram

Nature

I grew up in Utah the daughter of a forestry professor. Our vacations were camping, camping and more camping much to the dismay of my mother. We spent time on Flathead Lake in Montana and Grand Teton National Park most summers. When I had children and moved to Washington we took them to Glacier Park every summer. Can you guess where my favorite places to shoot are? I love being outside (minus the bugs and potential slithery critters) and capturing the world around me in both large and small scale. Sometimes I want the grand landscape and sometimes I just want to capture a tiny detail. Either way, I edit my nature images to reflect the scene as I saw it. I actually hate editing so I spend as little time as possible in front of the computer!

Abstract

In the last few years I have fallen in love with abstract photography. What does that mean? For me it generally involves using a slow shutter speed and moving the camera while the shutter is open to create an image of color, light and movement that makes someone say “what is that?” There is virtually no end to the various ways of creating abstract images and for me they either give me a sense of calm and peace or they make me curious. Either way I love creating them!

Mandalas

I started creating mandalas from my images a few years ago and it has become an addiction. A mandala translates literally as “circle” in Sanskrit and is a spiritual and ritual symbol that visually represents the universe in some Asian cultures including Hinduism and Buddhism. The belief is that by entering a mandala and moving towards the center that you are going through the process of transforming the universe from one of suffering into one of joy and happiness. I love that way of thinking. When I am creating them I look for images that have a lot of color and contrast between dark and light to create the most interesting designs.
